Specific Properties

  • Unmatched mechanical durability – significantly better wear and impact resistance than epoxy
  • Easy thermoplastic processing
  • Improved thermal efficiency – higher dielectric resistance means a lower thickness is required which allows for better heat dissipation
  • Superior weatherability – able to withstand intense UV exposure and extreme thermal cycling
  • Great chemical resistance – unaffected by long-term exposure to solutions like 50% sodium hydroxide and 10% sulfuric acid (ambient temp.)
  • Excellent flexibility – capable of passing ISO 6860 (3.175 mm conical mandrel bend) at over 250 μm
  • Adhesion to a wide variety of substrates – steel, aluminium, copper, nickel, and more
  • Low coating density : higher covering efficiency

Applications

  • Busbars and connectors
  • Battery racks
  • Chiller plates / Cooling channels
  • Switchgears
  • Induction coils
  • Rotors and stators
  • Other electrical components

Rilsan® Polyamide Fine Powders Coatings for Busbars

A busbar is an electrical conductor, maintained at a specific voltage and capable of carrying a high current, usually used to make a common connection between several circuits in a system. Powder coating process versatility allows to insulate a wide variety of sections, materials and complex geometries. Arkema has been granted UL Yellow Card certification for two new polyamide 11 powder coating grades for use in electric vehicle battery systems and other applications.  Rilsan® T Orange 7706 is a primerless fluid bed dipping grade designed to achieve high thickness (500 µm) in one dip. Rilsan® ESY Orange 7705 is a primerless electrostatic coating grade for components that require thinner insulation. Both grades achieved CTI ratings in excess of 600 volts and fire resistance class UL 94 V-0 for coated busbar.  In addition, these materials offer ease of processing due to their high level of flexibility and ability to be easily masked.

Rilsan® Polyamide Fine Powders Coatings for Cooling Systems

EV batteries can utilize either air cooling or liquid cooling for temperature regulation. Liquid cooling is preferred for meeting contemporary cooling needs. The Rilsan® ESY series provides electrical insulation for cooling plates with exceptionally thin layers, beginning at just 100 µm.

Insulation Coating Solutions for Induction Heating

An induction furnace uses electromagnetic induction to generate heat. Unlike traditional heating methods, induction heating directly heats metals, offering precise temperature control. Additionally, it's cleaner and more sustainable. The core component, a coil typically made of copper, creates a magnetic field, converting electrical energy into heat and melting the metal. These furnaces can reach temperatures up to 1650 °C. The coil can be coated with Rilsan® Polyamide 11 Fine Powders for protection and insulation. This coating excels in durability, flexibility, and dielectric strength, reducing the risks of coating damage and electrical failure, thus ensuring a longer service life and consistent quality.
