In recent years, cycling has gained remarkable momentum and established itself as an increasingly vital aspect of our society. Beyond being a mere mode of transportation or a recreational activity, cycling is becoming a powerful force that shapes our cities, lifestyles, and overall well-being.

Arkema's high performance materials play a central role in the development of lighter and innovative bikes and related accessories, taking advantage of their strenght, durability and suitability with a variety of processing methods.

HEZO CYCLING: 3D-PRINTED CYCLING SHOES

No more uncomfortable shoes and pressure points! Hezo Cycling has developed the Helu One cycling shoe to deliver the perfect fit to riders' feet.

Thanks to an app, an aerodynamic custom design is generated from your feet morphology and the outer shell is then 3D-printed with Ultrasint® PA11 powder from Forward AM, providing superior mechanical strength and support with high durability.

DQBD: THE REVOLUTIONARY 3D-PRINTED SADDLE

Everyone's body is unique. That's why DQBD has designed this revolutionary saddle thanks to additive manufacturing. Digitally-captured data is used to perfectly match the saddle's geometry to the rider's body. By manipulating the geometry of the printed structures, the flexibility of the parts can be adjusted where it matters.

Printed with Rilsan® PA11 powder (Power Bed Fusion), the saddle provides the best performance when it comes to impact strength, shock absorption, and fatigue resistance as well as enhanced comfort.

HEXR: WORLD'S FIRST CUSTOM-FIT BIKE HELMET

The custom-made HEXR helmet has revolutionized bike helmet design, which has not changed for over 50 years. The helmet uses a honeycomb core that has been independently tested to be 26% safer than traditional foam helmets. Each helmet is crafted to your head shape from a 10 second head scan making it the most comfortable helmet ever created. Thanks to its low density, Rilsan® PA11 offers flexibility, ductility and impact resistance.

The ability to 3D print polyamide 11 has now made it possible to create an unprecedented improvement in safety performance of the equipment.

CANYON: 3D-PRINTED BIKE MOUNT

When attaching a computer to a bike, a corresponding mount is needed. Traditional bike computer mounts are manufactured by injection molding – showing limitations when it comes to weight, functionality, design and manufacturing.

In a quest for the lightest parts possible, bike manufacturer Canyon decided to completely rethink the design of their mounts. That's where additive manufacturing and material expertise came into play.

Thanks to simulation work and the carbon fiber reinforced powder Ultrasint® PA11 Black CF from Forward AM, Canyon could dramatically reduce the weight of the mount by half while maintaining an excellent rigidity and stability when riding. Additive manufacturing also allowed to adapt the functionality of the part, making it compatible with the two main computer brands on the market.
